Google Doc's

Previous to my CEP 452 class I had no experience with Google doc's, actually I have never even heard of them prior to this class. So far out of all of the technologies that we have went over Google doc's are by far my favorite. As a future teacher I can see myself using them in for many things. For example, if I were in a classroom where each student had a computer they could all log onto one Google doc and instantly be able to share their thoughts with the whole class without even saying anything. Google doc's also allow teachers to further evaluate students who have an issue with speaking in front of the class as we know that not all students will be comfortable talking in front of the class but with Google doc's they don't have too, all they have to do is type. I could also see myself using Google doc's for a group editing assignment; here i would have them all look at a document and make corrections and comments on the paper posted. Parent conferences could also work in a Google doc, you could have parents post questions on the doc which will allow the teacher to answer at his/her convenience.

I also enjoy how easy it is to use, it uses pretty much an identical from as Microsoft Word. I think that most people are afraid to try new things such as Google doc's because they think it will be to hard to figure out. I would say that most everyone who has used a computer on a regular basis has a basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Word. Google doc's are a testament to how easy technology can be, you just have to be willing to try new things. Now that was introduced to Google doc's it makes me wonder what other technologies I will come across.

  1. I love google docs too for the same reasons but also that we can see who types what as teachers and the other students don't have to know! I also like uploading all my docs to google so that way if my computer crashes I have them accessible.

I highly recommend looking at google power points because then you can access your powerpoints from anywhere and keep them forever :)

  2. I didn't know they existed until this class either. In fact, I made my entire website about Google docs and the supporting programs. The fact that the features are practically identical to Microsoft Word is a definite plus and I think showing someone who had never used it would take an hour at most.
The benefits of Google docs are endless; group collaboration, posting presentations for students and teachers alike, keeping track of data through Google spreadsheet. I suggest Google docs for every group project I have now. Even if we meet in person once, we can still use Google docs efficiently. The chat feature in Google docs is also really unique. Sometimes, when working on a group project- you get a question about something and if that person is working on the project simultaneously, then you can ask it. Or if they're not, you can simply leave a comment that they can see and respond to. Google docs has so many benefits for everybody, but it certainly has a great home in our education system.

  3. I love google docs, I think it is a very good way to keep everyone involved. For example when using word, you often have to meet all together or every time someone makes a change it has to be emailed out again but with google docs it is public and everyone is able to make changes whenever even without meeting sometime and without email everyone is able to see the change. It is a great way to have group collaboration and makes things much easier.
